Brenda Gray

This is going to be difficult for me as she was my wife and best friend for 57 years. Always the great provider, those that have been to Henley and the Palaces ride will know of her delight for over catering. What are we going to do without her bread pudding?

She managed to attend the Club luncheon but was very ill, two days later she was in ICU. We brought her home for Christmas although by then she could no longer eat and weighed 4 stone. She passed away 10 days later but at least in her own home like she wanted, not a Hospice as The Royal Marsden wanted.

She enjoyed making and wearing Victorian cycling clothing, having trained as a tailor when she first left school, and always wore appropriate outfits. She was never keen on riding her 1890’s Wulfruna as the frame was a bit too large preferring her 1914 Peugeot. She always liked a trike, having had a James for many years, and although I bought her an early Rudge Number 2, she never really got around to riding it properly due to the cancer that she fought so bravely for nearly 3 years.

It was not an easy end to a very full life and I will miss her to the end of my days. However, the ride and event catering will go on in her memory. Rest easy my lovely, pain free at last.
